Writing Projects
Final Draft Prompts:
For each prompt, write a beautiful 6-8 sentence response that not only answers the call of the question, but also provides strong textual evidence in the form of quotes or specific examples from the play. Have someone (a friend, classmate, parent, sibling, neighbor, etc...) edit your paragraph. Write a final draft and turn in both for full credit. The Final Draft Paragraph teaches us the art of brevity and responding to specific prompts in a concise, focused manner
Act I FDP:
What is foreshadowed in Act I? Find specific quotes and examples to back up your predictions.
Act II FDP: The Nurse and the Friar both help Romeo and Juliet. Why? Choose one of these character and discuss what is their motivation? Is it right for them to intervening and how responsible does this make them for what ultimately happens?
Act III FDP: What should Juliet do at this point in the story? Is there benefit to being together at all costs? Or do you think the events with Tybalt are a sign she should leave Romeo?
Act IV FDP: Lord Capulet’s parting words in scene 5 are “And all things change them to the contrary.” How does this describe the action of the play so far?
Act V FDP: Romeo and Juliet is considered one of the most famous tragedies ever written. In your opinion, what is the most tragic aspect of this play? The death of Romeo and Juliet? The deaths of the 'innocent' characters such as Paris, Tybalt, Mercutio, Lady Montague? The feud between the families? Whatever you choose to discuss, support it with textual evidence.

Creative Journals:
This is a chance to express your creative side! You must answer each of the five prompts. This is creative writing and while the prompts are inspired by Romeo and Juliet, your entries do not need to reference the play in any way and can take place during any time, in a place of your choosing. Each entry must be at least 1 page long. It can be typed or neatly handwritten. Each entry should be written in 1st person (I). Really describe what you are feeling, seeing, hearing, etc... You do not need to write in Shakespearean language, just use your own words.
The final product will be presented in portfolio form, all five entries neatly and properly written with a cover of your own creation. You get credit for creativity and effort given to your cover. It can be created digitally or by hand, but it should reflect the content of the creative journal.
I will show you examples of excellent creative journals in class.
Prompts:

Day #4: Your family has found out about your true love and they are furious. What do you do now? Why do they hate this person so much? What do you do now?
Day #5: Tragedy. Something terrible has happened to your true love. What happened? Will you ever see them again? What will you do now? Describe the tragedy, tell me about your heartbreak.
